NDRMF At the UNOOSA International Conference

The National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) took an active role in the international conference on “Leveraging Space Technology for EW4All, Climate Actions and Disaster Risk Assessment,” held in Islamabad from 27–31 October 2026, in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).

The conference provided an important platform for NDRMF to highlight its contribution to strengthening Pakistan’s DRM architecture through scientific risk assessment, technology-driven solutions and risk-informed financing.

NDRMF’s engagement featured three key dimensions:
1. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐑𝐑 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞
NDRMF participated in panel discussions on DRR, highlighting the importance of shifting from reactive disaster response towards proactive risk reduction, preparedness and resilience investments.

2. 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐂𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥
The Fund presented its Probablistic Risk Assessment Model (NatCat). The presentation highlighted the model’s expanding capabilities, including the newly integrated Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) and smog perils.
Demonstrating how scientific data, geospatial intelligence and multi-hazard risk modelling can support evidence-based planning and informed decision-making.

3. 𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐂𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧
NDRMF established a dedicated pavilion featuring live demonstrations, interactive technical briefings and an overview of the model’s components and multi-hazard assessment capabilities. The pavilion attracted national and international delegates, providing an opportunity to explore NatCat’s practical applications and exchange perspectives on technology-driven disaster risk assessment.
The pavilion was also visited by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary, who was briefed by Amir Khan Goraya, CEO, NDRMF, on the model’s capabilities and applications.
Stakeholder interactions and expert perspectives further highlighted the importance of leveraging risk intelligence, space-based technology and scientific modelling to strengthen preparedness and resilience.

NDRMF’s participation reinforced a central message: disaster resilience must begin with understanding risk, translate into informed investments and lead to action before disasters strike. (27-31 October, 2026)
