NDRMF Highlights The Need For Anticipatory Action And Preparedness Financing At Pakistan Water Week 2026
NDRMF participated in the 6th Pakistan Water Week 2026, contributing to discussions on the interconnected challenges of water security, climate change, disaster risk and public health.
Amir Khan Goraya, Chief Executive Officer, NDRMF, delivered the opening remarks at the session “Drought and Human Health: Building Resilience through Integrated Water, Health and Climate Action in Pakistan,” bringing attention to the far-reaching consequences of drought beyond water scarcity and agricultural productivity.
Highlighting the impacts on public health, food security, nutrition and vulnerable livelihoods, he emphasized the need to move beyond conventional drought response towards an integrated system that connects early warning, anticipatory action and pre-arranged financing.
He underscored that scientific information, including meteorological observations and satellite-based monitoring, must translate into timely interventions through stronger coordination among water management institutions, public health services, disaster management authorities and social protection systems.
Reaffirming NDRMF’s mandate to bridge policy, evidence and finance, he highlighted the Fund’s commitment to supporting science-backed risk reduction initiatives and integrating climate resilience into development planning and disaster risk financing.
The discussion reinforced the importance of coordinated institutional action, cross-sectoral financing mechanisms and community-level preparedness to protect vulnerable populations, particularly women and children, from the growing impacts of climate-related risks.
Resilience requires more than responding to a crisis. It requires anticipating risks, financing preparedness and ensuring timely action reaches those most vulnerable.
