NDRMF Highlights Risk-Informed Climate Resilience at Space4Climate Symposium

As part of SUPARCO’s Space4Climate Initiative, the Space4Climate Symposium – Peshawar brought together policymakers, technical experts, academia, and development practitioners to explore how Earth Observation and geospatial technologies can strengthen climate resilience and support sustainable development.

Representing NDRMF, Manager Disaster Risk Financing (DRF) Mubushar Hussain participated in a panel discussion, highlighting the importance of adopting a proactive and risk informed approach to disaster risk management and climate resilience.

During the discussion, NDRMF’s flagship initiatives were showcased, including the Natural Catastrophe (NatCat) Model, developed with technical assistance by SUPARCO, which provides probabilistic multihazard riskassessments to support evidence-based investments in DRR, climate change adaptation, and financial resilience through DRF instruments.

The session also highlighted Pakistan’s Disaster Risk Financing Strategy, the ongoing development of the DRF Implementation Framework under the IMF Reform Measure 6 (RM6), and the Project Preparation Facility (PPF), which supports the development of investment-ready climate resilience projects.

“Investing in disaster-prone communities today through risk-informed planning, resilient infrastructure, and nature-based solutions is essential to reducing future losses and building a climate-resilient Pakistan.” Manager Disaster Risk Financing, NDRMF
