Project Description

Nullah Ujh is one of the most prominent tributary of River Ravi in Tehsil Shakargarh of District Narowal. Jalala flood embankment is providing defence to 103 villages in vicinity of Jalal Sharif in Tehsil Shakargarh. From flood there was a need to find a comprehensive solution to avoid breach of Jalala flood bund in future and to avoid haphazard flood fighting carried out each year. This reach was under severe threat and due to deferred maintenance the bund along with allied river training works were also in bad shape. This mitigation measure improved and made this vital flood defence resilient for the safety of the area against fluvial floods in Nullah Ujh.  Further, the additional project benefits are:

  • Flood mitigation in the adjoining areas of Jalala Sharif Tehsil Shakargarh, District Narowal.
  • Preparedness to deal with flooding situation.
  • Saved thousands of acres of agriculture land and villages from flood damages, in case of breach.
  • Less flood risks to masses/ vulnerable groups.
  • Improvement of irrigation flood infrastructure.
  • Habitat improvement contributed to  biodiversity.
  • River restoration and naturalization.
  • Improved public access and enjoyment of the River Ravi corridor and interpretation of this environment for the public benefit.
