Project Description

Disaster vulnerability and climate change is a multidimensional issue and can be addressed through an integrated approach encompassing measures to improve the built environment in which the people reside, study, and work as well as to improve the capacities of communities related to disaster awareness, planning, and response. In PIMSNP-III AKF(Pak) and AKAH, P propose an integrated multi-input initiative to reduce the vulnerabilities of the communities residing in disaster-prone areas. The proposed initiative follows a holistic approach that comprises of two crucial components.

  • The first component is based on hard interventions pertaining to infrastructural improvements to enhance climate resilience and reduce exposure to disasters’ risks through:
  • Construction of 9-10 flood protection structures at the vulnerable sites.
  • The second component caters to the installation of early warning systems.
  • 02 sites have been identified in Chitral and Mansehra, where installation of EWS will enable monitoring of hazards and timely transmission of data to at-risk communities and key stakeholders to anticipate disasters and strengthen response windows and capacities.

In these measures, special needs and requirements of girls and women along with differently abled people will be considered and accordingly incorporated in the planning, design, and implementation phases.
