Project Objective

The objective of this project is to contribute towards disaster-resilient Sindh with reduced socioeconomic and fiscal vulnerability to natural hazards and climate variability and change.

Project Outcome
  • Contributed in resilience building by protected population, livelihoods and environment.
  • The project protected populated districts of Shaheed Benazir Abad, Matiari, Sukkur, Naushero, Feroze and Sujawal.
  • Protected 127,036 Ha fertile land from floods.
  • Protected infrastructure including industries, railway line, highways, irrigation networks, schools, houses and public health infrastructure from floods.

Improved flood protection infrastructure to reduce Flooding associated impacts and incidents.

Project Description

Floods 2022 inflicted heavy losses of lives, livelihoods and infrastructure across Pakistan and Sindh was one of the worst affected province. A total of 10 million people affected in 30 districts. The worst affected areas remained inundated for months due to absence of natural drainage pathways leaving behind a vast magnitude of damaged public infrastructure, agriculture land and houses of people. The irrigation department government of Sindh submitted proposals or reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure schemes that received major damages/losses during the monsoon floods 2022 in district Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushero Feroze, Sujawal and Matiari. Post completion of the project, the live, livelihood, private and public infrastructures will be saved and enhance resilience against floods in the area. The list of schemes implemented under the project is as follows:
