National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) extends grant financing worth PKR 613.85 Million to Government of KPK

NDRMF extends grant financing worth PKR 613.85 Million to Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) signed a Tripartite Grant Implementation Agreement with the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, for extending grant financing up to PKR 429.695 Million for their project related to strengthening & expansion of Emergency Rescue Services in 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) through Rescue 1122. The agreement signing ceremony was held at NDRMF Office at Islamabad on Thursday 9th January 2020.

The Tripartite Grant Implementation Agreement was signed by Mr. Khurram Khaliq Khan, General Manager, Projects & Operations Group, NDRMF, Dr. Khateer Ahmad, Director General, Emergency Rescue Services 1122, and Muhammad Abid Majeed, Secretary, Relief Rehabilitation & Settlement Department, Government of KP.

The total cost of the Project is PKR 613.85 million out of which NDRMF will finance 70% share, amounting to PKR 429.695 million whereas Government of KP shall contribute 30% financing, amounting to PKR 184.155 million. The project will be completed in 18 months focusing on; provision of Ambulances, Fire Brigade Vehicles, Surveillance Drones, Scuba sets, and other search and rescue equipment. The project’s interventions are in line with the National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP). Apart from this, NDRMF has also financed Government of other districts for strengthening rescue services.

Earlier, NDRMF has also partnered with various Government and Non-Government entities for extending grant financing to their projects which are focusing on disaster risk reduction and preparedness. So far, NDRMF has signed Grant Implementation Agreements with ten Fund Implementing Partners (FIPs) for their projects focusing on Multi Hazards Vulnerability Risk Assessment (MHVRA), Flood Protection works, Drought and Landslide Mitigation Infrastructure, Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) and Early Warning Systems (EWS).

All projects for which NDRMF is providing grant financing, have undergone through a merit-based and transparent process of selection in accordance with prescribed criteria, while promoting gender equality, along with ensuring environmental and social safeguards. NDRMF has also established strong monitoring framework & systems to ensure that all the funded projects are implemented in an effective and transparent manner, thereby reducing disaster risks and protecting the local population from disasters.
